Killingworth Recreational Park Opens Our Town to Fall
Date: September 27, 2023
Heading into Killingworth Recreational Park (KRP) on a warm August night was the awakening of our town back to life. Lazy summer days gone, school starting back up, and families coming out of their summer hibernation as they converge at KRP. Stuffed parking lots and parents with their hands full of sports equipment as they wave hello and chat about their summers; that is the beginning of fall in our town.
Starting the trek out to the fields, I was overcome with a strong sense of community at KRP. It was a friendly reminder as to why we moved to Killingworth and what I love about our town. Parents I see at the school pickup line but don’t really know, smiled and said hello. Families we cheered with during spring sports stopped for a quick catchup about our summers. Parent coaches greeted their teams and started getting their kids pumped for the coming season. Dedicating their time and energy for youth sports and getting a little too passionate sometimes, is definitely felt across the fields.
As the kids don their HK uniforms and hustle in their sport, it brings me a great sense of pride in our community and the town. These kids work hard, they have fun, and I love being a part of watching them learn and grow. I feel, like most parents, that time flies. It feels like just yesterday my littlest was just getting into fall sports and now it’s just part of our yearly routine.
Each night we trudge out across the field to set up for practice or a game, we’re either sweating or freezing cold but the incredible sights of nature, the fall blue sky, and the positive adrenaline from the town keep us sane.
The fall sports season is in full swing and our kiddos will play their hardest to represent HK well. And every time I pull into a parking spot at KRP, I smile knowing that I get to be a part of this community and my kids are benefitting immensely with all the kind and supportive people we are surrounded by. Above all, as we sadly said goodbye to summer and busy days ahead, the opening season at KRP helps dull the pain of another school year beginning and our kids growing up before our very eyes.
